Kuwait City Al Mutlaa

Kuwait’s Al Mutlaa district is an area of rolling dunes and rugged desert outcrops, the scene of a planned urban development of impressive scope which will showcase the best of future city design. The Al Mutlaa show is an ambitious production spanning both stage and screen, intended to generate excitement for the massive new development, which will be a landmark in the region.

Artists in Motion produced the show, in conjunction with Multiple International. I worked with AIM’s artistic directors on the ‘Nostalgia’ section, producing around 30 animated shots of Kuwait City’s historic centre and surrounds. This area was (sadly) largely demolished several decades ago, so I worked from archival photographs of the narrow medieval streets and squares to recreate the old town in 3D, including shots highlighting the 1950s floods. Animated 3D characters were added to give more detail to the scenes.

The project also involved creating several 3D desert landscapes and compositing live actors in these environments.
